Spring Workshops

The knitting Guild of Santa Cruz is thrilled to offer two workshops this Spring taught by Kira Dulaney. Kira is the designer behind Kira K Designs, a line of original knitting and crochet patterns with a streamlined and eminently wearable aesthetic. Kira’s designs include garments and accessories in a wide size range, featuring clean lines and intriguing details that are both interesting to make and easy to wear. As we discovered last Spring, Kira is also an outstanding instructor!

Workshop #1 Intro to Argyle

Saturday, April 28th, 2018, 9:30-12:00, limited to 15 participants, $20 Guild members

Get ready to expand your knitting parameters with this class all about intarsia, also known as picture knitting. We’ll start an argyle coffee cup cozy and go over the basics of intarsia including managing multiple balls of yarn and how to best weave in ends.

Materials: 20 yards worsted weight yarn in 3 contrasting colors (all yarn should be roughly the same size), US size 7 knitting needles (tight or loose knitters can adjust accordingly), yarn bobbins, scissors.

Workshop #2 Blocking Techniques

Saturday, April 28th, 2018, 1:00-3:00, limited to 15 participants, $18 Guild members

Blocking Techniques: After all the hours of knitting or crocheting, seaming, and
finishing, there’s one last step that people skip all too often. Every project looks
better after blocking, from hats to sweaters to lace shawls. In this class we’ll
practice both steam blocking and wet blocking on a variety of stitch patterns.
Materials: a few swatches or small projects to block, terry cloth hand towel,
blocking surface (blocking mat, blocks, or clean cardboard), blocking pins,
measuring tape. Optional – bring if you can: steamer or steam iron, blocking
wires, pressing ham or pressing mitt.

Lunch Break Trunk Show 12-1:00

Kira will bring a trunk show of her designs and project kits. She would love to
see any projects that people have made with her patterns!
To enroll in one or both of the workshops send a check made out to the Knitting
