Knitting in the Shetland Islands
Join us in March as Guild member Maggie Morales takes us to the Shetland Islands with a report of her trip to Shetland Wool Week in September 2015 . This annual event, started just six years ago, is a celebration of Britain’s most northerly sheep, the Shetland textile industry, and the unique wool and knitwear that come from these islands. Take a look at the Shetland Wool Week website for more background: http://www.shetlandwoolweek.com/
Maggie will take us on a brief tour of Shetland, including some of their museums, and will share with us photos and information about the classes she took. This multimedia presentation will include songs and video of Shetland and a brief video introduction to Hazel Tindall, master of Fair-Isle knitting and the world’s fastest knitter (and one of Maggie’s teachers during Shetland Wool Week).
For all of you armchair travelers out there, this will be a program you won’t want to miss!
